Why the USA are reigning Olympic Rugby Champions and last night’s rugby club dinner

On the 18th of May 1924, in Colombes Stadium in Paris, 30,000 French fans jeered as America beat France in the Olympic rugby final. The Americans took the gold 17-3 and rugby ceased to be an Olympic sport.

Typing guinea fowl, goat’s cheese, and hockey into the Google search engine this morning didn't reveal the mind-blowing trivia I had hoped for. As luck had it on Wednesday, when researching the history of badminton, prior to writing about the previous evening’s Badminton dinner, I found the India/red pepper/badminton link that helped to steer that article back to it’s main subject, the menu.

Last Night's Badminton Dinner

I was almost run over this morning by Raja, our wine steward and his jet black wine cart. I was intending to check the condition of the Old Library after last night’s Badminton dinner when Raja, shiny cart and all, came flying through the service door at high speed! This in itself is not an abnormal occurrence, however this morning the wine bottles were still full.

Visitors from Oxford tend to view our food blog on Fridays, viewing an average of 3.2 pages for an average of 4.5 minutes. About the same time it takes to copy and paste our weekly formal hall menu into a word document, attach it to an e-mail, and send it to their catering managers’ suggestion in-box.
